The "Lituus" Ensemble (former name "Contredanse") was formed in 1992 by a group of graduates of musical higher education establishments of the Republic of Belarus. From the start, the musicians have worked in Baranovichi City. The ensemble's earlier repertoire contained the works of West Europe's Baroque composers. Later, there grew an interest in the music history of Belarus and Poland, mainly in that of the period of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The music historians Olga Dadiomova and Arina Vyachorka were instrumental in helping the ensemble members find music literature. Owing to the researchers, the ensemble began to perform the themes taken from the Yagellonian manuscript (the "Polotskaya Tetrad" XVI-XVII centuries), as well as several dances by the Polish composer Voitek Dlygorai (XVI century). In 1995 Lituus began to perform concerts around Belarus. The first concerts of importance took place during the festivals "Gastsyny u Galubka" (1996) and "Belaruskiya Fanfary" (1996). The popularity grew quickly. The X International Music Festival "Polotsk-97" played a great role in the process. The most lasting impression was the solo concert in the chamber of St Sofia's Cathedral in Polotsk City. In 1998 , the ensemble took part in the International Festival "Art Session-98" held in Gomel City, as well as in the Republican Festival of chamber music "Musy Nesvizha-98". That same year the most interesting event in the ensemble's history took place, which was the participation in the Republican Festival in Novogrudok City. It was there that the musicians got acquainted with leaders of Belarusian knights' movement. This led to the growing need to learn more about earlier musical pieces dating to XIII – XV centuries. Later, the ensemble took part in several Republican and International Festivals such as "Orsha-99", "Bely Zamok-2000", "Bely Zamok-2001", "Bely Zamok-2003". In 1999, 2001 and 2006, the ensemble participated in the FIMO International Festival in France. The first CD was released in 2001 "Contredanse".Several numbers were recorded on the CD named "The Legends of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania".
